J.J. Keller Self-Certifies Mobile ELD Solution

J.J. Keller & Associations has announced that its Mobile ELog solution has been self-certified and added to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's ELD registry.

The company's Mobile ELog solution for Android devices and the Compliance Tablet were both included on the FMCSA registry.

According to the ELD mandate, any electronic logging device placed into service as of Dec. 18, 2017 must be self-certified and registered with FMCSA. The self-certification process confirms that the ELD solution is able to accurately capture and store a driver's hours of service and make this information usable to enforcement personnel during roadside inspections and audits.

J.J. Keller's Encompass Fleet Management System with ELogs offers over-the-air updates to ensure compliance with regulatory changes. The system is compatible with all vehicle classes and many smart devices and includes multiple hours of service rule sets. J.J. Keller offers customers options from only ELogs to full performance management.

Quality Parts Center Joins HDA Truck Pride

Quality Parts Center of Gary, Ind., has joined HDA Truck Pride's network of independent parts and service providers.

Quality Parts Center was founded in 1995 as a commercial vehicle body shop and has expanded its offerings to include parts inventory. Today, the company has a 6,000 square-foot parts store and a 15,000 square foot shop for servicing large truck and bus fleets.

The business is headed by Dave Roti, who has served the local area with a heavy-duty body shop since the mid-1990s, and Noah Osborn, who has years of local OE experience.

“We're delighted to add Quality Parts Center to our membership roster,” said Tom Tecklenburg, chief commercial officer of HDA Truck Pride. “By joining the HDA Truck Pride ranks, they will have access to our national brands, training, and telematics, along with regional and national fleet programs. Seven Truck Fleets Sign on for Run on Less MPG Roadshow

Seven U.S. truck fleets— together accounting for nearly 11,000 tractors and 26,000 trailers-- have signed on to have one of their trucks and drivers participate in Run on Less, a new cross-country “roadshow” aimed at showcasing advancements in fuel efficiency.

Run on Less is a three-week event that will kick off from multiple points across the U.S. and wrap up during the inaugural North American Commercial Vehicle Show, which will run from September 25 to 28 in Atlanta.

Results, including fuel economy, freight efficiency, and dollars and carbon saved, will be tracked and reported during Run on Less via www.runonless.com.

At the close of the run in Atlanta, final MPG results will be announced, and drivers will showcase their equipment and share fuel economy learnings and best practices with show attendees.

The event is being organized by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency and Carbon War Room's Trucking Efficiency Operation. Shell and PepsiCo have stepped up as the title sponsors. Geotab is the event sponsor and will install its devices in the competing trucks participating in Run on Less to measure fuel usage, idle time, cruise control usage, and more. Pilot Flying J is donating $1,000 in fuel to each participating fleet. In addition, nearly two dozen other companies, including Heavy Duty Trucking, are serving as supporting sponsors.

These seven fleets have signed on so far to take part in Run on Less:

“The fleets represent myriad companies hauling goods across North America,” said Mike Roeth, executive director of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency. “They include a private fleet, Frito-Lay, running dedicated routes, some running only for-hire irregular routes and others with a combination of both.”

XPO LTL Drivers Rack Up 1 Billion Accident-Free Miles

XPO Logistics has announced that its 12,575 less-than-truckload drivers have surpassed one billion miles with no preventable accidents since the company began tracking the statistic.

XPO started tracking consecutive accident-free miles by drivers in April 2012 and by May of 2017, 890 XPO drivers had reached one to three million accident-free miles for a total that exceeded one billion miles.

“The billion-mile mark is a huge achievement for our company and a point of pride for our drivers,” said Tony Brooks, president of the LTL business for XPO Logistics. “It speaks to their impressive commitment to both safety and customer service, because an accident on the road is also a delay in delivery.”

XPO held a two-day celebration for the 19 exemplary drivers who have exceeded three million miles accident-free. The event was held at XPO's LTL headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich. The drivers were recognized in a special ceremony and attended a roundtable hosted by CEO Bradley Jacobs.

“I want to particularly commend the 890 XPO drivers who have achieved personal milestones of one to three million accident-free miles in the past five years,” said Brooks. “These drivers alone have contributed 1,102,000,000 miles to our tally.”
