The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Monday it had approved Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc's three-drug combination for cystic fibrosis (CF), a rare genetic condition. The approval comes months ahead of the FDA's previously announced action date in March, sending the drugmaker's shares up 4.1% at $183.53 in late afternoon trading, before being halted for news pending. Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc has priced its three-drug combination for cystic fibrosis (CF) at $311,503 per year, after winning early U.S. approval on Monday. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, which comes five months ahead of the agency's previously announced action date, greatly expands the percentage of cystic fibrosis patients that Vertex can treat. The drugmaker boosted its guidance range for CF products sales to between $3.70 billion and $3.75 billion, from $3.60 billion to $3.70 billion....
San Jose, California's third-biggest city, is proposing to convert PG&E Corp into the country's largest customer-owned utility, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing the city's mayor. Mayor Sam Liccardo said in an interview to the WSJ the city served by PG&E hopes to persuade other cities and counties in coming weeks to line up behind the plan.
