UPDATE 1-Hacking the hackers: Russian group hijacked Iranian spying operation, officials say

LONDON/WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Russian hackers piggy-backed on an Iranian cyber-espionage operation to attack government and industry organisations in dozens of countries while masquerading as attackers from the Islamic Republic, British and U.S. officials said on Monday. The Russian group, known as "Turla" and accused by Estonian and Czech authorities of operating on behalf of Russia's FSB security service, has used Iranian tools and computer infrastructure to successfully hack in to organisations in at least 20 different countries over the last 18 months, British security officials said. Paul Chichester, a senior official at Britain's GCHQ intelligence agency, said the operation shows state-backed hackers are working in a "very crowded space" and developing new attacks and methods to better cover their tracks....

SoftBank Seeks to Take Control of WeWork in Bailout Deal

(Bloomberg) -- SoftBank Group Corp. is looking to take a controlling stake in WeWork, according to a person familiar with the matter. The deal is said to value the company at about $8 billion or less, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations.The plan includes an offer to buy as much as $3 billion of stock from existing shareholders, the person said. The package is also expected to include $5 billion in debt financing.WeWork declined to comment. CNBC earlier reported details of the deal.WeWork had recently been considering two rescue packages -- one from SoftBank and another from JPMorgan Chase & Co. -- to keep it from running out of money as soon as next month.The bailout underscores the rapid unraveling of the once-high-flying startup.
