RSA Conference 2019 Announces Recipient of Annual Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–RSA
Conference
, the world’s leading information security conferences and
expositions, today announced Tal Rabin as the recipient of its annual
award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics.

The award recognizes innovation and ongoing contributions to the field
of cryptography. Rabin was selected out of nominated individuals and
organizations often affiliated with universities or research labs by a
judging committee seeking to acknowledge nominees who are pioneers in
their field and whose work has applied lasting value.

“Many previous recipients of this award have been my inspiration and
role models, so it’s a great honor to be recognized alongside them,”
said Rabin. “These are extremely exciting times for the area of
cryptography, as advanced applications are moving into more mainstream
use. So, we should make the most of it!”

Rabin serves as the head of cryptography research at IBM’s Thomas J.
Watson Research Center. Her research primarily focuses on cryptography
and network security, specifically the design of efficient and secure
encryption algorithms. She also looks at secure distributed protocols
and the theoretical foundations of cryptography, as well as number
theory, and the theory of algorithms and distributed systems. Rabin has
co-authored over 100 papers and is registered for five patents in the
U.S. In addition, she focuses on making communications over the internet
more secure. Her most cited works in this field explore the design of
digital signature schemes, among other applications, in protocols for
secure web communications.

“Tal is a trailblazer in her field who has made enormous strides in
cryptography and encryption,” said Linda Gray Martin, Director and Chief
of Operations at RSA Conference. “She is an inspiration and role model
for not only those in her field but the entire cybersecurity community.
RSA Conference is proud to honor Tal for her outstanding achievements
and groundbreaking work.”
