Rental Affordability Act Supported by Courage California
Support continues to grow for the ballot initiative that, if passed, will benefit millions of CA renters and communities
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#HousingIsAHumanRight–Housing justice advocates and backers of the Rental Affordability Act (RAA), a November 2020 state ballot initiative that will allow for expansion of rent control throughout California, are proud to announce that the Courage California has endorsed the ballot measure. The organization fights for a more progressive California and country.
The organization joins a growing list of high-profile individuals and organizations, including Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), every elected rent control board in California, and the City of West Hollywood to support the fight for rent control.
“Courage California is proud to endorse the Rental Affordability Act. It is critical that elected officials at city and county levels can provide rental assistance, including the suspension of rent increases, to its low-income tenants — many of whom have experienced highlighted inequities in housing justice due to the COVID pandemic, and the massive unemployment which has followed. Californians need the Rental Affordability Act to protect tenants and bring stability to our most vulnerable communities,” said Angela Chavez, Director of Communications, Courage California.
Calls for stronger tenant protections have grown more urgent during the COVID-19 pandemic, as millions of Californians already struggling with the state’s high housing costs have now lost work and income in the nation’s shuttered economy.
“Courage California has long been on the front lines, fighting for causes like healthcare and equality, issues that affect all Californians. The organization’s endorsement of the Rental Affordability Act only confirms that the housing crisis is one of the most immediate social justice issues of our time,” René Christian Moya, Housing Is A Human Right and Rental Affordability Act Campaign Director.
The Rental Affordability Act is sponsored by Homeowners & Tenants United, with significant funding by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
