Cyber attack hits China government, schools, but spread slows

Chinese local authorities from traffic police to industry regulators were hobbled on Monday by a massive global ransomware attack, but the spread of the WannaCry worm in the country appeared less aggressive than initially feared. Dozens of local Chinese authorities said they had suspended some of their services due to the attack that has disrupted operations at car factories, hospitals, shops and schools around the world. "The growth rate of infected institutions on Monday has slowed significantly compared to the previous two days," said Chinese Internet security company Qihoo 360.

Oil jumps as Saudi, Russia take lead and extend supply cuts to March 2018

Oil prices jumped 2 percent on Monday after the energy ministers of the world's two biggest producers Saudi Arabia and Russia jointly said that a crude production cut would be extended from the middle of this year until March 2018. Brent crude was at $51.88 per barrel at 0655 GMT, up $1.04, or 2.1 percent, from its last close at a level last seen in early May. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was at $48.85 per barrel, up $1.01, or 2.1 percent.

Dubai plans $1.7 billion tourist project on new artificial islands

Dubai plans to develop a 6.3 billion dirham (1.3 billion pounds) tourist resort on two man-made islands it will build either side of the Burj Al Arab, its luxury sail-shaped hotel. It is the latest development planned by the emirate as it aims to attract 20 million visitors a year by 2020 when Dubai will host the World Expo 2020 exhibition. Spanning 4 million square feet, Marsa Al Arab will be made up of two islands, one dedicated to entertainment and family tourism and the other featuring luxury villas and a private marina, state news agency WAM reported on Monday.
