Edmentum’s Study Island Releases New Game-Based Live Quizzes

Study Island’s new game-based Group Sessions give educators two new ways
to engage learners

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Edmentum (edmentum.com),
a global education leader and pioneer in online teaching and learning
solutions, has released two new game-based live quiz modes to its Study
Island program. These two new features are enhancements to Study
Island’s popular Group Session feature, which was introduced in 2015 to
give teachers a way to receive in-the-moment feedback from students
without having to purchase and implement a classroom responses system
(CRS). When using Group Sessions in the classroom, a teacher can launch
a live quiz to a group of students, and students respond to questions
from their smartphones, tablets, or computers. Real-time formative
assessment data reporting is provided to the teacher to drive more
effective instruction.

“We continuously look for ways to put educators first in how we design
our programs,” said Jason Scherschligt, Edmentum’s vice president of
product strategy and experience. “Boosting student engagement while
providing actionable data is one way that we can make educators’ lives
easier and learning more fun for students.”

With the new game-based Group Session modes, educators can now turn
their live quiz sessions into a way for students to compete with their
classmates. In race mode, the teacher launches the session, then
students race to answer as many questions as possible as quickly as
possible. In challenge mode, the teacher leads the session, launching
one question at a time. In both new modes, students only earn points for
answering correctly, and the quicker students answer the more points
they earn. The game-based Group Session modes were released to all Study
Island customers on February 11, 2019, at no additional charge.

“Educators rely on Study Island for rigorous, standards-based formative
assessment and practice, and we are dedicated to exceeding their
expectations,” said Karen Burkhart, Edmentum’s senior product manager.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that Study Island’s evolution is
driven by ongoing educator feedback. Over the past year, we’ve engaged
in hundreds of feedback sessions with educators all over the country to
ensure that this new feature functions in an innovative and engaging way
that supports them.”

Study
Island’s
customizable K–12 assessment and practice tools give
educators the flexibility and depth they need to support student
learning and continuously engage, monitor, and assess progress. Study
Island is backed by multiple
research studies
that show that Study Island meets ESSA requirements
of an evidence-based intervention.
