NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest retail bookseller, today announced the return of its seasonal Kids’ Book Hangout in stores nationwide on Saturday, May 18 at 2 PM. The customer-favorite event is a nationwide program for young readers to celebrate reading with exciting new books and fun games and activities designed toward readers in grades two through six. This spring Kids’ Book Hangout features an introduction to four recommended books, and free giveaways, while supplies last. Customers can sign up at BN.com/BNHangout.

“Our Kids’ Book Hangouts have brought tens of thousands of kids together across the country to discover new books and celebrate reading, which is why we’re so pleased to announce this spring edition of the event,” said Stephanie Fryling, Vice President of Merchandising, Children’s Books at Barnes & Noble. “We strive to make the Kids’ Book Hangout an event where kids can learn about new books and get excited about reading, and this season’s selection offers riveting stories about friendship, school, and even Greek mythology.”

For this spring’s selection, Barnes & Noble partnered with HarperCollins to highlight four unique books for young readers across genres and reading stages. Kids do not need to have read the featured books, but should come ready to discover new characters, stories and genres. The books are:

  • PopularMMOs Presents A Hole New World by PopularMMOs
Minecraft-inspired YouTube star PopularMMOs brings everyone’s favorite characters to life in a thrilling adventure to save their friend, battle the undead, and escape the hole new world they’ve crashed into with one unfortunate misstep.
  • The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil Series #1) (B&N Exclusive Edition) by Soman Chainani
The New York Times bestselling School for Good and Evil series is an epic journey into a dazzling new world, where the only way out of a fairytale is to live through one.
  • Just Jaime (B&N Exclusive Edition) by Terri Libenson
Another spot-on story of middle school drama and friendship from Terri Libenson, national bestselling author of Invisible Emmie and Positively Izzy. This must-have Barnes & Noble edition includes an exclusive chapter and bonus content from the author.
  • Odd Gods by David Slavin and Daniel Weitzman
Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Percy Jackson in Odd Gods, the first book in a hilarious illustrated series about the most unlikely, unusual gods ever to grace the halls of Mount Olympus Middle School.

During the Kids’ Book Hangout on May 18, Barnes & Noble booksellers will host activities related to the books, as well as give participants book-related giveaways to take home, while supplies last. Barnes & Noble will also offer all Young Reader books for 20% off from 2 PM to 5 PM on the day of the event, including chapter books, graphic novels, fiction and nonfiction. In addition, Barnes & Noble Cafés will offer Kids’ Book Hangout participants a coupon to purchase a Blondie Bar with M&M’s® for just $1.

The Kids’ Book Hangout is held seasonally and adds to Barnes & Noble’s other kids’ offerings, including additional Young Reader events, Kids’ Club membership, and weekly, nationwide Storytimes.
