Do trucking’s hiring processes need an overhaul?

Trucking needs workers – lots of them. About 3.5 million folks work as truck drivers right now, give or take a few thousand here or there, with 3.1 million of them commercial driver's license (CDL) holders.

And those figures don't begin to include the dispatchers, dock workers, load planners, and maintenance technicians (just to name a few) who are vital to ensuring trucks and trailers can haul a wide assortment of freight to a multitude of destinations.

Recovery and repair training

ATA names new executive director of IMCC

American Trucking Assns. announced it has named Tyler Rushforth as executive director of the Intermodal Motor Carrier Conference.

ELD makers frustrated with Congress, urge truckers not to wait until December deadline

OOIDA maintains strong opposition to mandate

Makers of electronic logs are frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding the mandate created by recent congressional actions, and are cautioning truckers against waiting until last moment to select a device.

They said costs for electronic logging devices (ELDs) have fallen sharply in recent years, and warned of a supply crunch for electronic components later this year.
