Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart are facing mounting criticism from India's brick-and-mortar retailers, which accuse the U.S. giants of violating Indian law by racking up billions of dollars of losses to fund deep discounts and discriminating against small sellers. The companies deny the allegations. Bezos said on Wednesday Amazon would invest $1 billion to bring small businesses online in the country, adding to the $5.5 billion the company had committed since 2014....
(Bloomberg Opinion) -- Policy makers and voters often express concern about the level of the federal deficit, which topped $1 trillion last year, and the national debt, now more than $23 trillion. But, unlike a household that owes money to a bank, the U.S. government has the ability to tax its creditors. This power means that the federal government can afford any level of debt that is owed to American taxpayers. Here’s an example of what I mean.Suppose that the government’s debt is $100 million per person -- a huge amount that is many times larger than the current debt -- and the interest rate is 5%. How can the government begin to pay this, a figure that amounts to $5 million per person per year? It’s actually simple. Suppose first that all U.S. taxpayers are exactly the same financially and so they each own the same amount of U.S. government debt. Then, the...

The massive drop comes as tax credit for Tesla buyers ended in 2019. An existing $7,500 U.S. tax credit for electric vehicles (EVs), which allows taxpayers to deduct a part of the cost of buying an electric car, phases out over 15 months once an automaker hits 200,000 cumulative EV sales, which Tesla hit in July 2018....
Each offers the potential for capital appreciation and yields that 10-year Treasurys can't provide. Pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb, fresh off a year in which it gobbled up "pharma tour de force" Celgene and gained 28%, looks like one of the best dividend stocks to buy for 2020. The best dividend stocks to buy are often ones that can both afford to pay shareholders a meaningful quarterly dividend -- preferably a sustainable and growing one -- and offer a shot at solid capital gains....
