For-hire shipments dip from record in March

Despite drop, DOT says freight remains at ‘historically high' level

The Department of Transportation (DOT) said for-hire freight shipments slipped 1.5 percent in March from the record high set one month earlier.

The agency's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) said in a statement May 10 that for-hire shipments for the entire first quarter was down 0.5 percent from the final three months of 2016.

Werner selects MacroPoint for logistics visibility

Werner Enterprises has selected MacroPoint's freight visibility platform for use in its North American logistics operations.

MacroPoint, based in Cleveland, said in a statement its technology will assist the more than 240,000 shipments Werner Logistics manages for partners annually. MacroPoint offers predictive analytics, custom alerts and real-time tracking.

Mack to offer remote updates for refuse models

Mack Trucks said remote updates will be offered on most model year 2018 refuse vehicles, and that its LR model is now available in a 4x2 configuration. The announcements were made this week at the WasteExpo in New Orleans.

Mack Over The Air (OTA), which lets customers automatically update software and set vehicle parameters, will be available on the 2018 Granite, TerraPro and LR models equipped with Mack engines.
