Sometimes less really is more

By now we hope you have heard about our cross-country roadshow showcasing real fleets, hauling real freight on real routes.

We are looking forward to the September kick off of Run on Less so that we can demonstrate that with a combination of technology investments and good driving practices trucks can achieve fuel economy above 6.4 MPG (the national average). During the Run we are hoping average MPGs of all seven drivers will reach 9.

TMW Systems’ Leonard recognized during Global Technology Event

Timothy Leonard, executive vice president, operations and technology for TMW Systems, was recognized as 2017 “Data Visionary” in the Americas Data Heroes Awards program sponsored by Hortonworks.

The award was presented in San Jose, CA, in conjunction with the DataWorks Summit/Hadoop Summit, an annual technology conference focused on big data best practices.

Penske secures new contract with Detroit Diesel Corporation

Penske Logistics announced it has been awarded new business with Detroit Diesel Corporation to support the company's engine, transmission and axle supply chain operations in Redford, MI.

Penske will provide warehousing and dedicated contract carriage services for the inbound portion of their operations, which includes sequencing and kitting operations. On the outbound logistics side, Penske will manage a NAFTA consolidation center.

Oil prices dip on ample supply as OPEC may consider widening cap

Prices dropped even as OPEC signalled it may widen its production caps to include Nigeria and Libya, whose output has recovered in recent months after being curtailed by years of unrest. Brent crude futures (LCOc1), the international benchmark for oil prices, were at $46.21 per barrel at 0936 GMT, down 50 cents, or around 1 percent, from their last close. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has agreed with some non-OPEC members to curtail production until March 2018 but the move has failed to eliminate a global glut of crude.

B.C. container drivers win $2.3 million in court

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Supreme Court of B.C. has upheld the wage floor in the Container Trucking Act, after 10 companies sued the provincial government in an attempt to avoid paying back pay to drivers, according to the union representing affected drivers. “Container truck drivers work hard and deserve fair compensation,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National president. “Unifor fought hard to get higher pay rates and retroactivity included in the Act.
