NHTSA Vehicle Research and Test Center Director to Address FTX
Tim Johnson, Director of NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center, will be on hand at this year’s Fleet Technology Expo at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel in Schaumburg, Ill., to open the event on Tuesday, October 18. Johnson, who has been a member of the senior executive service at the U.S. Department of Transportation since 2012, will discuss how technology is shaping the way we drive our vehicles, and how they will someday drive us.
As the director of NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center, Johnson is responsible for carrying out applied research to support agency programs in several key areas, including intelligent technologies, such as radar and camera-based crash avoidance systems and vehicle-to-vehicle communications, as well as emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles. Prior to moving to his position at the Vehicle Research and Test Center, Johnson lived in the Washington, D.C. area for 22 years and has held several technical lead and management positions within the federal government, most recently as the director of NHTSA’s Crash Avoidance and Electronic Controls Research Office.
