Device Trade-In Company Launches Innovative, Environmentally-Friendly Packaging that is Reusable
Designed by Phobio, New Packaging Integrates a Compression Frame Box Made of Corrugated Cardboard, Offering the Perfect Balance of Device Protection and Reusability
ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Phobio, the omni-channel trade-in service that allows for simplified consumer and business technology device upgrades, today announced a new radically designed packaging that will be used to safely ship laptop trade-ins. In support of Earth Day and an eco-friendly future of retail, the reusable packaging integrates a compression frame corrugated cardboard box that will be reused at least three times, significantly reducing landfill waste and shipping costs.
A leading provider of device trade-ins, Phobio has been instrumental in recycling millions of laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Every year, the company prevents over 500 metric tons of electronic waste from entering landfills. The new packaging design – specifically for laptops – will further reduce the volume of shipping materials and related waste.
The new eco-friendly packaging ensures the integrity and safety of devices in-transit providing a better trade-in customer experience, and over time it will significantly reduce landfill waste.

Available today for Mac Book, Mac Mini, and iPad Pro trade-ins, the new packaging eliminates traditional foam inserts. The box’s compression frame design integrates a film that securely fastens the device yet provides the flexibility to endure the rigor of movement during transit. These inserts can be reused at least three times for other shipments and the other components are 100 percent recyclable.
“The compression frame packaging kit requires less materials and is very easy to use, yet it is extremely durable and does not compromise device protection during the shipping process,” said Brian Crawley, Phobio’s Operations Specialist. “Given the reusability factor, the packaging will reduce Phobio’s reliance on foam and other shipping materials that would otherwise find its way to a landfill. This is a win-win-win for our customers, company, and the planet.”
Looking ahead, Phobio plans to expand the compression frame design for other devices such as larger “all-in-one” computers and screens like the Apple iMac.
