ComEd, Quanta Technology and VELCO Join IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Corporate Engagement Program
New collaboration to help shape the global power and energy industry
PISCATAWAY, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization advancing technology for humanity, and the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) today announced the addition of ComEd, VELCO and Quanta Technology to the PES Corporate Engagement Program.
“For corporations in the power and energy sector, the IEEE PES Corporate Engagement Program represents a valuable resource for professional education and training, as well as providing opportunities for employees to participate in numerous IEEE initiatives, technical activities and standards development projects,” stated Marianna Vaiman, IEEE PES Corporate Engagement team representative. “Program members reap the benefits of professional development in a collaborative environment while contributing to the overall advancement and improvement of the power and energy sector.”
As members of the PES Corporate Engagement program, employees from ComEd, VELCO and Quanta Technology can tap into the numerous PES resources to stay abreast of the latest advances in renewable energy system design and integration, smart-grid technologies, electric vehicles, wholesale market design and operation, asset management, and more.
“IEEE PES is the place where leaders in the field, from academia to industry, come together to share and refine ideas, and develop the technologies that make the electric grid more resilient and sustainable,” said Shay Bahramirad, vice president of Engineering and Smart Grid, ComEd. “ComEd has long been proud of its work within IEEE PES, and joining the Corporate Engagement Program represents one more significant step towards strengthening and deepening this important relationship.”
Chris Root, VELCO chief operating officer, emphasized, “The opportunities to learn from industry experts and share and exchange information in a customized manner benefit the company and our engineers. As a small company, having access to the industry’s most recent technical information and standards is critical. Signing this MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) will help VELCO engage with other utilities experiencing similar issues related to grid modernization.”
Damir Novosel, Quanta Technology president, highlighted the importance of IEEE in building careers through participation and mentorship, “Although our team has been very active with IEEE PES, having a more structured engagement in various IEEE initiatives would further benefit both our team and the industry. We are committed to have more than 100 employees working with industry leaders to make a difference in electrical energy delivery.”
