Boyd Bros. Offers Driver Sign-on Bonus and Per-Mile Pay Increase

Boyd Bros. Transportation has announced a new driver sign-on bonus and a two-cent per mile pay increase with a $1,000 weekly minimum pay guarantee.

“We are committed to creating a better OTR driving job and pay is a key factor,” said Chris Cooper, Boyd president and CEO. “This across the board increase and weekly minimum not only attracts new candidates to Boyd, but shows how we value our current drivers in a very tangible way.”

The sign-on bonus is geared for immediate payout with candidates hired by Boyd receiving $500 upon delivery of the first load and an additional six-cents per mile for the following 18 months.

“By paying the bonus with each mile driven, new drivers at Boyd know that they will receive their bonus. It's not a gimmick,” said Dwight Bassett, Boyd chief operating officer. “The bonus should accumulate to around $10,000 with experienced flatbed drivers starting at 57-cents-per-mile plus a monthly productivity bonus.”

Dayton Parts Offers Trailer Accessories Product Line

Dayton Parts has announced a new line of trailer accessories to complement its current trailer component offering.

The new line of accessories includes coiled air, power cables, pogo sticks, glad hands, and tire inflation components. Accompanying the launch is a new trailer products catalog.

“We want to help vehicle operators increase their uptime while making replacement decisions as easy as possible,” said Dan Young, product manager, Steering and Trailer for Dayton Parts. “The new line of trailer accessories continues to build on our full trailer portfolio, offering customers everything they need quickly and easily from one source.”

The accessories are in addition to a full array of trailer products including air supply/management, Gen 2 ABS, tire inflation, hub caps, and brass fittings.

Analysis: Moving Trends Could Shift Freight Patterns

Common sense says a shop owner who locates a business where there is a healthy, growing population is more likely to be successful. However, those population patterns are shifting, and it could mean a change in where you deliver freight.

Americans are moving westward, flocking to the Mountain and Pacific West, while the Northeast and Midwest continue to lose residents, according to United Van Lines' 41st Annual National Movers Study, which has been tracking customers' state-to-state migration patterns annually since 1977. For 2017, the study is based on household moves handled by United within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C.

The study ranks states based on the inbound and outbound percentages of total moves in each state. United classifies states as “high inbound” if 55% or more of the moves were going into a state, “high outbound” if 55% or more moves were coming out of a state, or “balanced” if the difference between inbound and outbound was negligible.

It found that in 2017, more residents moved out of Illinois than any other state, with 63% of the moves being outbound. Vermont had the highest percentage of inbound migration in 2017, with nearly 68% of moves being inbound.

As a region, the Mountain West continues to increase in popularity, with 54% of moves being inbound. The West is represented on the high-inbound list by Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Washington, and Colorado.

The southern states also saw a high number of people moving in, with 52% of total moves being inbound.
