Oracle adds cloud data centers in five countries, sets new 2020 target

Oracle Corp said on Monday it had added new cloud computing data centers in five countries and aims to have them in 36 locations by the end of 2020, as it races with Amazon.com and Microsoft Corp for market share. After a rocky start in the cloud business, Oracle, a longtime business software provider, is rolling out its second generation of cloud systems, in which it operates data centers and customers rent capacity from it. Amazon Web Services and Microsoft are the two top players with more than two-thirds of the global market in 2019, according to Forrester Research, but Oracle is trying to win customers by extending its geographical reach....

OPEC+ considering further 500,000 bpd oil output cut: sources

OPEC and its allies are considering cutting their oil output by a further 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) due to the impact on oil demand from the coronavirus, two OPEC sources and a third industry source familiar with discussions said. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies including Russia, known as OPEC+, are considering holding a ministerial meeting on Feb. 14-15, one of the OPEC sources said, earlier than a current schedule for a meeting in March. Oil has fallen $10 a barrel this year to $56, lower than the level many OPEC countries need to balance their budgets....

Check Point Software Q4 profit tops estimates, revenue up

Network security provider Check Point Software Technologies reported quarterly net profit that beat expectations, boosted by higher security subscriptions and products to guard against cyber threats in the cloud. Israel-based Check Point said on Monday it earned $2.02 per diluted share excluding one-time items in the fourth quarter, up from $1.68 a year earlier. Check Point said it bought back 2.9 million shares in the quarter worth $325 million as part of its share repurchase programme and announced a $2 billion extension to the programme with authorisation to buy back up to $325 million each quarter....
