Former CIA, NSA Director to Keynote Work Truck Show

General Michael Hayden, a retired four-star general and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency, will serve as keynote speaker at The Work Truck Show 2018. His address will take place on Thursday, March 8, as part of the President's Breakfast & NTEA Annual Meeting.

The Work Truck Show, North America's largest work truck event, is scheduled March 6-9 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Educational sessions, Green Truck Summit, and Fleet Technical Congress begin March 6, and the exhibit hall is open March 7-9.

As head of the country's premier intelligence agencies through two presidential administrations from 1999–2009, General Hayden was on the frontline of global change, the war on terrorism and the growing cybersecurity challenge. He understands the dangers, risks and potential rewards of the political, economic and security situations our country — and the world — are currently facing.

In addition to leading CIA and NSA, General Hayden was the country's first principal deputy director of national intelligence and the highest-ranking military intelligence officer in the country. In all of these jobs, he worked to put a human face on American intelligence.

CVSA transitions to new leadership

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) transitioned to its new leadership for the 2017-2018 term during the recent CVSA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.

Christopher Turner of the Kansas Highway Patrol is the new president of the Alliance. Scott Carnegie of the Mississippi Highway Patrol is CVSA's vice president. John Samis of the Delaware State Police was elected by the membership to the position of secretary.

Digging into trucking data for safety insights

Did you know we're on the eve on one of the deadliest days in the trucking industry? That's right: October 11. Apparently, according to data tallied by Zonar Systems over the last three years, October 11 and June 7 are the two deadliest days for truck drivers – days on which 397 truck-involved collisions happen, with the highest odds of a truck being involved in a fatal accident occurring between 7 pm and 10 pm, with 31% of total fatalities taking place during that time window.

Freight Brokers International to Acquire Consolidated Carriers

Freight Brokers International Corp., the FBI Group, announced an agreement to acquire Consolidated Carriers, a non-asset based freight broker in Markham, Ontario, Canada.

As part of the agreement, Consolidated Carriers employees will join the FBI Group and be located at its headquarters in Vaughan, Ontario. Owner Wayne McCord will join the FBI Group in a sales capacity.

“We believe in the value that a small broker like Wayne and Consolidated Carriers can bring to our organization,” said Manny Speranza, senior partner, The FBI Group. “Their work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to solve problems are fundamentally important to our future growth as a business and the professional development of our people. It's a perfect cultural fit for FBI and an ideal exit strategy for the owner of a successful brokerage.”

Consolidated Carriers is The FBI Group's third acquisition of a non-asset-based freight broker.

“The FBI Group understands how small freight brokers work,” McCord said. “This is a great opportunity for our staff and customers to benefit from the economies of scale at FBI while maintaining the relationships we've worked so hard to build over the years.”
