Sanofi set to buy Bioverativ for more than $11.5 billion – WSJ

Sanofi SA is close to a deal to take over U.S. drug maker Bioverativ Inc for more than $11.5 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The potential deal, which could be announced as soon as Monday, would value Bioverativ at about $105 a share, the Journal reported. The price represents a 64 percent premium to Bioverativ stock's close on Friday on the Nasdaq.

U.S. stock index futures dip after government shutdown continues

Investors shrugged off the threat last week, saying they were not worried about a major pullback in shares if U.S. lawmakers failed to strike a deal. "These things have no near-term or midterm economic impact whatsoever," said Michael Purves, chief global strategist and head of derivatives strategy for Weeden & Co in New York. "They are kind of embarrassing for the United States, but it's not really going to alter business or consumer confidence," he said.
