Q. If a driver operating from Canada or Mexico is stopped for inspection by U.S. authorities, how must the driver verify his or her compliance to the ELD rule?

A. Drivers operating in the U.S., who are subject to the ELD rule, must record all of his or her time operating in the U.S. on an ELD, and must have evidence of the hours worked for the current 24-hour period and the previous 7 days.

If during the 8-day period, the driver was also operating in Canada or Mexico, he or she may record his or her time operating in those countries by using one of the following methods:

• Records of duty status (RODS) on paper for the current day and the seven days prior operating in Canada or Mexico
• An AOBRD that displays or can print out the driver's RODS
• An ELD data transfer that displays the driver's RODS for any operations both inside and outside the U.S.

Momentum’s GreenLync 2.0 Provides Natural Gas Engine Information

Momentum Fuel Technologies has introduced the GreenLync 2.0 electronics communication system for its line of compressed natural gas fuel system solutions for Class 6 to Class 8 trucks.

GreenLync 2.0 technology provides drivers with information on natural gas engines to driver confidence and providing a more diesel-like experience. Through collaboration with Cummins, the system is designed to reduce false occurrences of engine fault codes. The GreenLync 2.0 technology can integrate with telematics platforms to enable fleet managers to understand their vehicle performance and optimize fuel management.

The GreenLync 2.0 driver message center displays the live fuel pressure reading, temperature-compensated fuel level and distance-to-empty. GreenLync 2.0 technology calculates a number of factors to deliver a distance-to-empty reading to the driver message center, reducing range anxiety and giving drivers more confidence in the system.

Real-time fuel pressure and temperature-compensated fuel levels give drivers an even more detailed picture of their system's performance to help maximize their efficiency.

“Customers told us they wanted a gauge that was more like they ones in their diesel vehicles,” said Mike Zimmerman, general manager, Momentum Fuel Technologies. “Now, with the distance-to-empty information at their fingertips, drivers can have a diesel-like experience and an easier transition to CNG vehicles.”

If a vehicle is equipped with a factory-installed in-dash fuel gauge, GreenLync 2.0 technology will drive the gauge as well as its own driver message center. Momentum's GreenLync 2.0 electronics package has been tested and verified for use on all U.S. truck OEM chassis makes/models with factory gauges and wiring.

TMC Names USA Truck’s Harris General Chairman

American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council announced that Jeff Harris, vice president of maintenance at USA Truck has been elected 2018-2019 general chairman and treasurer during the organization's Annual Meeting.

“Jeff has been a model TMC member and an example of the type of professional standard our council strives to set. I'm pleased to see him elected as TMC general chairman and treasurer,” said Robert Braswell, TMC executive director.

Harris, who served this past year as the Council's vice chairman and chairman of meetings, will succeed Glen McDonald, director of maintenance at Ozark Motor Lines in this role at the conclusion of TMC's 2018 Annual Meeting.

“Being recognized like this by my peers in TMC is a tremendous honor, one I am humbled to receive,” said Harris. “I want to thank the membership of TMC for the opportunity and thank Glen for his service to our organization.”

U.S. security panel deals major blow to Broadcom’s bid for Qualcomm

Trump ups trade pressure on Canada, Mexico; senior Republicans urge rethink

WASHINGTON/MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump increased pressure on Canada and Mexico over trade on Monday, saying the two could avoid being caught in his planned hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum if they ceded ground in talks on a new NAFTA trade deal. Trump also said, after a weekend of tweets in which he threatened to hit German automakers with tariffs, that Mexico needed to do more to stem the flow illegal drugs to the United States, something not encompassed by the talks over the North American Free Trade Agreement. Trump's determination to push ahead with a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent duty on aluminum has prompted threats of retaliation from the European Union, Canada, China and Brazil among others.
