Apple will reportedly launch a refreshed entry-level MacBook sometime later this year, and a new report from DigiTimes (which we first saw via MacRumors) suggests that it might feature a Retina Display. Apple currently has two lower-budget laptops, the MacBook Air and the 12-inch MacBook. The MacBook Air, which uses a low-resolution display, is one of the company's most popular computers, which is why it looks like the device Apple is willing to refresh.

Japan's Coincheck to start repaying customers Monday after digital money heist

Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck Inc, reeling from government reprimands over lax standards after $530 million dollar theft of digital money, said it would from Monday start repaying customers affected by the heist. Coincheck said last week it would repay about 46 billion yen ($431.6 million)to investors who lost digital money in the hack, one of the biggest of digital money ever. The incident sparked renewed concern in Japan and abroad over security at cryptocurrency exchanges, and raised questions over the country's system of regulating exchanges.

Optics tech firm Lumentum buys Oclaro for $1.7 billion

Laser and optical fibre specialist Lumentum Holdings Inc, seen by analysts as a parts supplier for Apple's Face ID technology, will buy optical components producer Oclaro Inc for about $1.7 billion in cash and stock. Announcing the deal on Monday, California-based Lumentum said the purchase was aimed at broadening its portfolio of laser offerings and getting an edge in a fast-developing market for 3D sensing technology. Technology sector analysts say Lumentum is the primary supplier of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) that power the Face ID feature in Apple Inc's premium iPhone X.
