Keynote Speakers and Session Lineup Announced for O’Reilly Velocity Conference 2019

Conference to Attract Systems and Site Reliability Engineers, Architects, and Application Developers

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/VelocityConf?src=hash" target="_blank"gt;#VelocityConflt;/agt;–O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today announced the lineup of speakers presenting at its upcoming Velocity Conference, taking place June 10-13, 2019 in San Jose, CA at the San Jose Convention Center.

This year’s event will cover trending topics in engineering, ranging from Kubernetes and site reliability, to observability and performance. The event agenda includes talks, keynotes and essential training courses aimed at helping conference goers gather expert insight and learn new skills, approaches and technologies for building and managing large-scale, cloud native systems. Velocity will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the latest applications and services – ultimately helping them stay on top of the rapidly changing cloud landscape.

Conference co-chairs, Nikki McDonald, content director at O’Reilly, Ines Sombra, distributed systems engineer at Fastly, and James Turnbull, CTO in residence at Microsoft, have put together a program that includes discussions and trainings from innovative programmers, talented managers, industry experts and senior developers who are leaders in cloud native and distributed systems.

Some of the keynote speakers at the event include:

“Cloud native infrastructure is being rapidly adopted – so it’s imperative that today’s developers are in tune with the latest trends, changes and best practices within the engineering industry,” said Nikki McDonald, content director at O’Reilly and Velocity Conference co-chair. “Our new Cloud Infrastructure Adoption Report found that nearly 50 percent of survey respondents cited a lack of skills as the top challenge their organization faces in cloud adoption. For this year’s agenda, we wanted the adoption movement to take center stage, with a desire to be a source and learning experience for the industry while providing an event space for attendees to connect with peers to share insights and ideas.”

The Velocity report entitled, “How Companies Adopt and Apply Cloud Native Infrastructure” highlights the trend of organizations adopting and applying cloud native infrastructure, aligning with O’Reilly’s Next Architecture hypothesis of this movement, which says to embrace and employ a combination of cloud, containers, orchestration and microservices to keep up with customers’ expectations and needs. The report surveyed 590 practitioners, managers and CxOs from across the globe, and found that while nearly 70 percent of respondents said their organizations have adopted, or at least have begun to adopt, cloud native infrastructure, more than 30 percent of respondents still have not adopted any sort of cloud native infrastructure. O’Reilly will also host the co-located Software Architecture Conference at the San Jose Convention Center from June 10-13. The show will cover the full scope of a software architect’s responsibilities, including leadership and business skills, with an emphasis on product management and domain-driven design. The event also provides a forum for networking and for learning how peers and other professionals have solved real-world problems. For more information, please visit this site.
