Bank of America Corp. will keep cutting costs even after reaching its annual spending goal of $53 billion by finding more ways technology can replace people, Chief Operating Officer Tom Montag said. “There’s more to do after that,” Montag said Wednesday at a conference in New York. “How much technology can we do that replaces people? How many things do we have that we can use it? In general, American workers move from low-wage to high-wage firms, according to a working paper distributed by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Changing jobs is a money-making proposition for most workers. The overall flow from job to job each quarter leads to a 1% increase in earnings per worker, and 60% of these gains come from workers moving to a better-paying company. Even workers who make lateral moves to similarly paying firms are likely to see wage growth, though less substantial than if they worked up the ladder.
