(Bloomberg Opinion) -- The list of challenges facing asset managers today is deja vu all over again from years past: downward pressure on fees, customers switching to low-cost passive products, and increased regulation. But now, one of the balms previously proposed to soothe the industry’s pains — achieving economies of scale by bulking up — seems to be falling out of favor.McKinsey & Co. this week published a report on the European asset management industry with the title “Adapting to a new normal.” As befits a document produced by one of the world’s leading management consultancies, the study is littered with gobbledygook phrases about the benefits of “alignment of clear value propositions;” the need for “proactive and bold actions;” the prospects for “unlocking vectors of new growth;” and the demands to “seek a new narrative.”But nowhere in the report, which runs to about 2,500 words, does McKinsey recommend mergers and acquisitions as providing...

PSA to sell stake in smaller Chinese tie-up as sales slide

PARIS/BEIJING (Reuters) - Peugeot maker PSA Group said it is preparing to sell its 50% stake in an eight-year-old joint venture with Chinese partner Chongqing Changan Automotive which has struggled with falling sales. The announcement in Paris on Thursday came after Changan also signalled in regulatory filings earlier this month that it was seeking a buyer for its half of the Shenzhen-based venture known as CAPSA, which builds cars under PSA's premium DS brand. It also plans to cut jobs and drop two of the four assembly plants it shares in a larger join venture with China's Dongfeng Group , which builds Peugeot and Citroen cars, Reuters reported in August....

Indian retailer Future's shares surge as regulator approves Amazon investment

Shares in Future Retail Ltd surged 13% on Friday, after India's antitrust body approved a deal that would give Amazon.com Inc a minority stake in one of the country's top retail groups. Future Retail in August announced the deal that would result in the U.S. online retail giant acquiring a 3.58% stake in the company, which runs over 1,500 stores in India and owns budget department store chain Big Bazaar. The companies had not disclosed the value of the deal, which would help Amazon push deeper into India's booming retail market....
