Lindsey Graham Sends Trump a Message: We Need ‘a Reliable Partner in the White House’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of the senators behind the bipartisan immigration deal that the president rejected last week, said Tuesday that someone on the White House staff “gave him really bad advice” ahead of that heated meeting on Thursday. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and senior adviser Stephen Miller reportedly brought in other members of Congress to push back against the proposed deal. “I don't think the president was well-served by his staff,” Graham told reporters Tuesday.

Nussbaum Driver Pay Increase Addresses Common Driver Issues

Nussbaum Transportation announced a new driver pay increase that not only improves per-mile pay but also attempts to improve fairness, downtime penalties and other headaches drivers commonly face.

The Illinois-based fleet says its new pay structure addresses fair calculation of paid miles, downtime, finding truck parking, and the ability for drivers to get more pay without waiting for favorable market conditions.

The increase is made of four components and is effective starting in February.

  • 2-cent-per-mile rate increase. Mileage rate increase of 2-cents per mile to the base pay structure.
  • Door-to-door miles. Nussbaum already pays practical miles. To build on this, the traditional zip-to-zip mileage model is replaced by a door-to-door miles calculation method.
  • Truck parking reimbursement. Nussbaum is adopting a policy of paying all reserved/paid parking, without question, to support drivers in finding safe and legal parking locations.
  • Bonus program increase. Nussbaum is raising bonus payouts for drivers who reach their Platinum performance level. Top earners can reach up to 6 cents per mile on top of base pay.

“Professional truck drivers are critical to the success of our business and this industry,” said Brent Nussbaum, chief executive officer of Nussbaum Transportation. “We intend to lead the way in driver pay to encourage new entrants and deliver the message to our drivers that their time and sacrifice away from their families is appreciated.”

Daseke Chief Financial Officer Scott Wheeler has added president to his title at the large network of open deck fleets. He assumes the role from founder Don Daseke.

Don Daseke will continue to serve as the company's chief executive officer and chairman. Wheeler will also remain Daseke's CFO.

“I first met Scott when he was the mayor of our home town, Addison, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. When I asked Scott to join Daseke I knew he was a great CFO,” said Don Daseke. "I soon learned he was much more. Scott has now been my business partner and confidant for years, and is a trusted leader.

“He was the architect behind our mergers, organizational structure and critical to our success in going public. He has proven to be a great leader and Daseke will continue to greatly benefit from his talents and experience as he takes on this new leadership role. He has the respect of his corporate team, the CEOs of our operating companies, the Daseke board of directors and the public markets. Daseke would be very different if it were not for Scott Wheeler.”

Before joining Daseke, Wheeler served as CFO for two companies and was a managing director at a CFO consulting firm for high-growth companies. Wheeler sits on the advisory board of the College of Business - Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he earned his undergraduate degree and now serves as an adjunct professor of finance.
