Clear Creek County, Colorado, Launches Permitting Website for Short-term Rental Compliance

Online system makes it easier and faster for owners to comply with new regulations

DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Short-term property owners in Clear Creek County, Colorado, can now obtain annual permits and pay application fees online at https://clearcreekcounty.munirevs.com. This website makes it easier for owners to complete forms and comply with new regulations that ensure short-term rentals meet minimum health and safety guidelines as well as minimize impacts to neighbors.

Short-term rentals are nightly or weekly rentals (excluding commercial properties such as hotels and motels) for less than 30 consecutive days.

“We have a huge demand for people who want to come to the mountains for recreation, and we don’t have enough lodging to meet that demand,” said Clear Creek County’s Community Development Director, Fred Rollenhagen. “We have a lot of property owners who want to occasionally rent out their homes. By developing a website dedicated to short-term rental compliance permitting, my staff can handle the entire permitting process electronically; from submittal of initial application and fees to issuance of the permit. Any complaints or concerns about specific, short-term rentals are also handled through the website which greatly streamlines the process for applicants and my staff.” While application fees can be paid to the county through the website, lodging tax payments must go directly to the Colorado Department of Revenue.

“Colorado consistently ranks in the top 25, U.S. travel destinations, and we’re receiving more requests from counties in mountain areas like Clear Creek to address it,” said Colorado Interactive President and General Manager, Mike Ansley. “Clear Creek County is proactively utilizing technology to help it meet an increasing demand and making it easier for the end user to meet compliance. It’s a win for both.”

Clear County’s website incorporates the payment integration API (application program interface) from Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA). The result is a website that enables the county to accept payments from property owners in a secure environment with the highest level of Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance. MUNIRevs was also engaged as a vendor on the project due to its experience providing paperless services to lodging and short-term accommodation providers.

“SIPA is dedicated to providing secure and efficient services to governments across the state,” said Jack Arrowsmith SIPA Executive Director. “MUNIRevs’ secure environment, matched with our payment processing with the highest level of PCI compliance, meets the security needs of governments who look to us to help them put more information and services online.”

CI provides digital government services to state agencies, local governments and educational entities through a contract with SIPA — the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. Eligible government entities in need of payment processing or payment integration services should contact SIPA.
