UPDATE 1-Deere to lay off 163 manufacturing workers in U.S.
Deere & Co. said on Tuesday it will indefinitely lay off 163 U.S. manufacturing workers at plants that make agricultural, forestry and construction equipment, citing decreased customer demand. The announcement comes months after the company said it would reduce production by 20% at its facilities in Illinois and Iowa in the second of half of the year. The facilities affected by the layoffs are Harvester Works in Illinois and Davenport Works in Iowa.
EMERGING MARKETS-Latam currencies weaken as recession clouds loom
Regional currencies lost between 0.06% and 0.6%, with the Mexican peso slipping to its lowest in nearly one month, while Colombia's peso touched an all-time low. U.S. manufacturing activity tumbled to a more than 10-year low in September as lingering trade tensions weighed on exports, data showed, stoking fears of slowing growth in the world's largest economy.
Philip Morris higher after BOFAML upgrades to ‘buy'
Philip Morris shares got a boost Tuesday after analyst Lisa Lewandowski upgraded shares of the tobacco company from ‘Neutral‘ to ‘Buy' because she thinks consumers are going to look for alternatives given all the bad press around vaping recently.
