Arkansas Virtual Academy Welcomes Students for the 2019-2020 School Year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Students at Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA), an online public charter school, will begin their 2019-20 school year on August 14. ARVA is available tuition-free to K-12 students across the state.

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-licensed teachers, ARVA provides each student with a personalized learning experience. Students take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, art, and music.

Through the school’s Destinations Career program, students can pair a solid academic foundation with hands-on learning experiences in growing career fields like information technology (IT), business, agriculture, and more. Even if a student doesn’t know exactly what they want to do, career readiness programs help open a world of what’s possible.

“We are excited to welcome our students for the new school year at ARVA where our online learning platform is brought to life by our dedicated staff,” said ARVA Head of School Amy Johnson. “Our teachers and other school leaders are committed to helping each and every student achieve their academic dreams.”

Many families and students choose ARVA because it provides an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Athletes, advanced learners, and students seeking a bullying-free environment can balance a full academic course load along with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.

“I learn everything I can about my students before the first day of school,” said second-grade ARVA teacher Dana Sellers. “And after teaching for 18 years, I know my students deserve a teacher who is growing and reaching new levels of expertise. That’s why I work so hard to boost my teaching skills throughout the year and foster growth in every student.”

Outside of the virtual classroom, ARVA offers online student clubs and in-person activities such as field trips, community service opportunities and social gatherings, including an annual graduation ceremony for seniors.

“I love working at ARVA,” said seventh-grade math teacher Theresa Hobbs. “We don’t just instruct students. We also partner with the whole family to help ensure that each child finds success. At ARVA, we are family.”

Students and their families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school. To learn more about enrollment and for a schedule of upcoming events, visit arva.k12.com or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
