U.S. jobless claims rise, labor market still buoyant
The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits edged up last week, but the underlying trend remained consistent with a tight labor market. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 244,000 for the week ended June 24, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast first-time applications for jobless claims declining to 240,000 in the latest week.
